MUSIC VIDEOS:
Every song that has ever been written and will be written in the future has a certain meaning. A song's lyrics are always an expression of the writer's outlook on life or life as he experienced it as he sees it. Her/his songs may incorporate personal or worldwide tragedies or events that occurred to his family or friends. When an artist, like a singer or songwriter creates a song, he/she creates some magic that needs to be shared with the world….thru music. It is the job of the video director or script writer to convey the story of that song to the viewer and listener.
There is a certain subjectiveness when a video director creates a story line around a musical piece. Not everybody will see a song as it is depicted by the video director…but…based on his own experiences and "what will work" for the performer as well as for the public, he will have only one interest: to make each music video so outstanding, so different from the rest, that it is a memorable piece and gains the attention of recording houses and record producers.
Michael has developed his own style, also known as his "signature", which is prominent in his work. He dramatically emphasizes on the depth of a song's lyrics by switching to a black and white sequence, triggering a response in the viewer's mind and therefore establishing an emotional connection between song and viewer. This is an important aspect for any artist, to relate to the meaning of a song.

This is only a short selection of Michael's music videos:
SAY SOMETHING.....is a ballad written by a “A New Great World” and performed by "Boy E", a contestant on "The Voice". It shows an emotional outcry in a relationship and the desperate attempt to communicate... even when the reassurance of "I would have followed you (wherever you'd go)" remains unanswered. This is the helpless pleading of one person to another in a relationship with flashbacks from a better time....and a heartbreaking conversation attempt with no answer.
A relationship is different than a friendship. In a relationship there are moral elements like commitment ....loyalty ...and monogamy...and when all that is being questioned, it is important to communicate....to answer...and...to "say something"!
If there is no response or no answer to any of his (or her) partners questions...frustration crawls in and one of the two will pull back...and remove him or herself from this hopeless predicament! One of them will pull back...with their heart...with their mind...with their soul...and then comes the unavoidable "goodbye". We chose to say goodbye to protect ourselves...to protect our feelings and emotions....even if it is a goodbye to something that we cherish and love!

WHEN LOVE AND DEATH EMBRACE.....a deep dark ballad, written by lead-singer Villie Valo of “HIM” and filmed at the San Carlos hotel in Phoenix, AZ.
This is the story about a songwriter. Just when he starts writing a new song, he's experiencing writers block. He checks into a hotel in which a young woman jumped out of the window on the top floor....because someone broke her heart. That happened many decades ago....and it is said, that her spirit never left the room.
In order to get to the room, the songwriter has to cross thru old and dark hallways and the eerie darkness of the place surrounds him. When he reaches the room, he falls in love with the room itself and the view that the room offers. The bathroom has a dripping water faucet that resembles the tears of a never resting soul and the television is tuned to an empty channel, showing snow...making the atmosphere an even darker one. Suddenly he snaps out of his writing block and is able to grasp the severity of what happened here...many decades ago...and now he is finally able to finish his song and he appropriately titles his piece "when love and death embrace".

DON'T CLOSE YOUR EYES TONIGHT....is the last music video of the late John Denver. The purpose of this music was to change John's image from the on top of the mountain sitting, guitar playing country boy, singing a song with the same title: "Thank God I'm A Country Boy". By the end of the 80's, John was seriously trying to break into the motion picture industry and he chose music videos as a tool to first of all change his image and secondly to show his abilities as a screen actor.
The story shows John as an oil worker...working on a drill platform, climbing ladders and driving home thru the dusty desert to reach his wife who is waiting for him with passion and desire. The lyrics reflect a certain insecurity in his relationship and John is torn by emotion and sleepless nights. With an almost pleading outcry he is asking his partner not to think of someone else when they share their night...but simply be aware of the fact that it is him that's next to her...and "Don't Close Your Eyes Tonight"…..
